17-68 Modernization

This project required removal and refurbishment of several tanks in a high hazard tank line. This included rigging and removal of tanks to be shipped across the country for proper modifications to be made. Several tanks swapped locations in the tank line to better improve the process, requiring significant civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical modifications. Installation of the new tank required excavation down to 22 feet below finished floor requiring 14 dewatering wells removing 2.2MM gallons daily. Structural upgrades required Dahlgren to strengthen the existing crane rails and hangers for installation of an additional bridge crane. Total project duration was 18 months, while keeping the remaining tanks operational throughout.
